In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

"The old man on the subway seat ahead of me keeps his eyes from wandering by staring out the window. His Nike Airs are worn a the toe and the heel, his gray overcoat brings out the color in his hair. Many times before I have seen him but never stopped to talk."
